96 teams? no thanks

So the folks over at the NCAA are considering turning our beloved tournament into a charity event by inviting 32 more teams to the field. That would bring the total number of teams to 96. And I quote:
“An expanded 96-team NCAA men’s basketball tournament starting in 2011, the subject of much debate during the current incarnation of March Madness, is considered “probable” by Big Ten conference commissioner Jim Delany.”
I think this idea sucks. Bigtime. How about they fix college football first! This could be the end of this pool as we know it. Who knows…

They might have a case if lower seeded teams were making it to the final four.
Lowest seeds to win the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship:
1985: Villanova – #8 Southeast regional
1988: Kansas – #6 Midwest
1997: Arizona – #4 Southeast
1989: Michigan – #3 Southeast
2003: Syracuse – #3 East
2006: Florida – #3 Midwest
4 champions seeded #2
13 champions seeded #1
History doesn’t show that anyone worse than an 8 seed can win the tournament as it is, why add more rubbish to the mix you ask?

Good point, the cinderellas (besides maybe George Mason a few years ago) never make it! So why do we need to invite more of them? It’s money, money, money
